STUNTS AND RISQUE ACTS

by Jack Malvern, Arts Reporter

Janey Godley, has been told that she risks arrest if she continues with her stand-up show, Good Godley, in which she discusses a crime that she evaded.

Ms Godley, who married into a Glaswegian gangster family, was charged with possession of illegal weapons in 1993 after police raided her house. Her act includes the story of how she had guns hidden beneath her washing machine and plastic explosive behind her wallpaper. She confesses that she lied to police to get away with the crime.

But during previews for her show a policeman told her that if he heard her admitting to criminal activity he would have to report her. He left the show early to avoid an incident.

Ms Godley said that she had no intention of changing her act. “I’m going to get away with it,” she said. “I ask the audience not to tell anyone the lie I told. It is like The Mousetrap, but with explosives.”
